Track
Closing ~ A BIG TxGAP Thank you!
|
TxGap
wants to recognize Marianne McGee and Catherine
Herndon for their extraordinary work they have done
onsite. They have volunteered hundreds of hours
doing everything from mountains of necessary paperwork
to taking dogs to the vet.
We
also want to thank our wonderful webmistress, Kim
S. who has had to keep up with the constant changes
to the website.
Thanks also goes out to all the families who have
opened up their hearts and homes to give these wonderful
retired athletes a home.
We also don't want to forget our many volunteers
and fosters maintaining the home front.
Their support and hard work has also been fantastic!!
And if you haven't met our TxGap vet, Dr. Elizabeth
Long, please stop by. She is located on 725 in New
Braunfels. She has done a tremendous job taking
care of these guys. You are in for a real treat.
Remember, all of us are just that, VOLUNTEERS. No
one gets paid. We all have full time jobs. The hardest
work you ever do, is from the heart!! This is done
for the greyhounds and nothing else. ONE HUNDRED
PERCENT of any donations goes to the greyhounds.
Webmistress
Note: I want to Thank Patsy Massey... She is
one person who NEVER gets a thank you. As TxGAP
CEO, Patsy (Hubby Ray too!) has done a tremendous
job with this track closing. 100s of Greyhounds
to organize and care for. No recognition; nothing.
She does it from the bottom of her heart. We LOVE
her. Please send her an email telling her thank
you for all she does for our Greyhounds ~ fastfriends@txgap.org
~ Thank you Patsy, Your TxGAP Webmistress Kim Shields!!!

Family's LOVE for Greyhounds

| The
Campbell Family adopted 2 greyhounds from TxGAP -
Rocky and Prince. Rocky - the brindle, has been with
the Campbells for several years, and they just added
Prince this fall when they visited us at the Triple
Crown in Hutto, TX. Pictured above are the 2 Greyhounds,
Rocky and Prince, with the Campbell children. Notice,
their mini dog to the right of the photo. His name
is PeeWee. He is part of the family too!

Rumstud
Finds His Forever Home in NYC!
November '07

Rumstud
has found his forever home in New York City and will join
Sarge, (a Waco stray) now called Duke. Rumstud was diagnosed
with spindle cell sarcoma. All the malignancy has been
removed but he has a high likelihood that it could recur
in the future. Rumstud looks very happy to meet new mom
Jan, pictured on the right in pink shirt.
Greg and Jan Crooke have been adopting special needs hounds
from TXGAP since 1993 and won't go anywhere else. They
are also pictured on own website when they flew in to
meet Sarge, now Duke. We hope Rumstud enjoys many walks
in Central Park with Duke.
Special thanks to Dr. Jack Jones who successfully removed
the tumor and all the malignancy in the second operation
and to Rummy's foster dad, Alan Musser, who nursed him
back to good health after both operations. He can tell
you, he was a nervous wreck.

"Meeting
of the Minds"
TXGAP
attended the "Meeting of the Minds" on October
13th at the Wine & Food Festival at The Waco Civic Center
as guests of the Texas Greyhound Association to benefit
the Waco Humane Society. There was tasting of over 100 wines,
20 different restaurants and live music. We had a greyt
time as well as "brainstorming" for the betterment
of greyhound adoption since the major "movers and shakers"
were all brought together. Pictured are Diane Whitely, Executive
Director, Texas Greyhound Association, John McQuade, Greyhound
Adoption League Texas, Patsy Massey, Texas Greyhound Adoption
Program, Susie McQuade, Greyhound Adoption League Texas,
Ray Massey, Texas Greyhound Adoption Program, Lois Mowery,

Garage Sale Update
We worked hard for the money!!!
The
TXGAP Benefit Garage Sale held this Saturday (August 18)
at the Branches Church on 281 North in Spring Branch was
quite a success. We raised over $660 through some generous
donations of money, goods, effort and sweat.
Susan
Smith, Patsy and Ray Massey, Chuck and Pat Brickman and
Tom Kinsey contributed goods as well as their hard work.
Other contributors were Brandy Watson, Ellen Trevino,
Allan Musser, and Linda Russi. Linda also donated items
from the estate of the late Linda Eaton.
Members
of the Branches congregation generously allowed the use
of their facility, made many donations and also gave their
time. They include Pastor Jerry Stacy, Nancy and Arnie
Ulland, Sandeen and Larry Finkel, Theresa and John Hanneman
and children, and Mark Mobley. Pam Barquest, of Hope Center,
donated numerous items and hauled away the leftovers to
be recycled for non-profit organizations aiding the needy
of our general area. Also attending the sale were Flamingo
Smith and Speedy Brickman, who personally thanked many
of the shoppers.
The
money raised will be used for the direct care of our foster
dogs, supplies and operating expenses.

All
in the Family
Here
is a cute shot of Bella, originally adopted out through
TXGAP, next to her big brother Jynx and
her big sister Mindy who is in the back ground on the
couch. What a cute shot!

Alan
Musser first became part of the TxGAP "family"
when he adopted his first greyhound over 10 years ago.
He then left this area and headed for Wyoming. Always,
keeping in touch, he later showed up in Corpus. There,
he adopted his second greyhound, Babe. Again, his nomadic
instincts took over and he and Babe struck out for Montana.
Sadly, though, last Winter, Babe died suddenly from ecoli
poisoning. Now, Alan is back with us again. This time,
he says for good. We sure hope so!!

Just
some "GREYT" Hounds adopted by some "GREYT"
Families
Thank you to ALL who opened up their hearts and homes
to a TXGAP greyhound in 2006 and in years past.
Also, THANK YOU to ALL who have supported us all these
years... We appreciate you all!

We
are so happy to welcome Pat and Chuck Brickman to our
list of San Antonio area volunteers. Pat and Chuck were
core volunteers for us in Corpus. They have recently
reallocated to the Bulverde area and Chuck is now teaching
in Boerne. They have been steadfast supporters for many
years, not only fostering and volunteering their time
but also contributing many fundraising items. They are
always willing to do whatever is needed.
Pat and Chuck have 4 adopted greyhounds, Chester, Daisy,
Speedy and Scout.
We are so happy that we will now be able to see them
more often.

We
had a good turnout for our dinner at Clear Springs.
Pictured are volunteers with HCGA, now TxGAP, that have
been involved going on 14 years. Jim and Marian Presson
moved to Missouri 9 years ago where they continued to
place TxGAP hounds. They were injured in a motorcycle
accident, but that did not keep them from joining us
for the evening. They will be returning to San Antonio
to live as soon as they recuperate and get their house
sold. Also pictured are Allen and Cheryl Snyder, Bill
and Kathy Torrey and Ray and Patsy Massey. We also welcome
back Larry and Liz Mooney who moved to Florida a few
years back. They also attended the dinner and will once
again become active in our program. Dick and Lynn Gustafson
could not attend the dinner but they will once again
be active volunteers for TxGAP.
